Thomas Wesley Stern

About: Thomas Wesley Stern began in early 2010 when long-time friends and self-taught musicians Gary Mayer, Joe Makoviecki and Robert Jackson met up in NYC after a pan-American roadtrip. “We realized we were all still writing songs and went into the stairwell of my 15 story dorm building and started practicing harmonies.” From there they hit the streets, busking in Washington Square, Union Square and anywhere someone would stop to listen. They began playing shows in their home state of New Jersey as well as upstate New York. After a chance meeting with Pete Seeger, American folk singer and activist, it became evident that American folk music would be central in the development of the band’s sound….. a combination of intricate lyrics and tightly constructed harmonies. Some months later, they added a friend from their hometown of Jackson, NJ, James Black, on the standup bass. In February 2011, Thomas Wesley Stern recorded their first EP “Hope Folk.” Recently, the band has toured the Eastern half of the United States and recorded their debut LP “American Pain” due out March 9th, 2011.
