OUR STORY

The Project Matters was established in honor and memory of singer/songwriter Benjamin High from Freehold, New Jersey who founded his band Green Arrows. Ben had named their debut record “MATTERS” and so, we share its name. We hope that through our discovery of emerging artists, Ben’s love of music, as well as his extraordinary talent, it will become his living energy.

Our mission is to support and encourage young aspiring musicians to reach their creative potential.

LYRICS OR MELODY

Each of us will be drawn to one or the other but for me it’s always the lyrics.

As many of you know, The Project Matters honors my singer/songwriter son, Ben, who passed away at the age of 19.

His music and his gift with words are treasures that speak of love, heartbreak and universal observations.

Each year, at this time, I like to share this photo of a tree that he and his childhood friend called the peekaboo tree. Its branches hung low to the ground and could be used for all manner of hiding and seeking.

“California” is the first song Ben ever recorded and lyrics from it have a poignant meaning on this day.

The tree is shown here along with the lyrics…

“The tree who’s leaves you used to play under
Will still be going strong the day you die…and it’s alright.”
